This fish uses bioluminescence to attract its prey; the Viperfish has a long dorsal spine that is tipped with a photophore, a light-producing organ. Also, it has photophore lights along it's body to confuse other creatures.
The Viperfish is only about 11 or 12 inches in length.
The Viperfish have unusually large teeth. They hang motionless in the water, and like the Anglerfish use their lighted-spine to lure their prey to them.
They are found in deep water 5,000 ft or 1,500 meters, and are not frequently seen by the human eye.
